I would recommend something like this: http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...ns-Gold-Double-Eagle-PCGS-MS-62-CAC-OGH-Doily PCGS, CAC, Doily, very pretty, even though *only* MS62.
I don't care for that coin; either the pictures don't do it justice, or there are dark smudges of some kind on the coin. The one posted by Camaro looks far nicer. It could just be the pictures...
Thanks. PCGS actually graded the coin MS64...which is a nice grade IMHO. I love this coin My point to the OP is...these coins can look amazing in grades below MS65. 1 grade point might not seem like a lot, but it does make a big difference on the wallet. If you look at the PCGS price guide (which is overpriced and can't really be used for purchasing)...you will see how much these coins jump based on a single grade point. Again, I wouldn't use the guide for buying...but it gives you a relative idea on how a very small grade change can make a large price difference. Here is the PCGS numbers for a 1925 (common date) St. Gaudens Double Eagle: AU55: $1575 MS60: $1580 MS62: $1660 MS63: $1750 MS64: $1820 MS65: $2400 MS66: $3600 MS67: $32,500 http://www.pcgs.com/Prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=67&title=St. Gaudens $20 My point is...up until MS64 the price doesn't change a whole lot (especially when you factor in the melt is currently $1288.03). Once you get above MS64...it starts to climb quickly. This is common for pre-33 gold.
That ones nice... im not the best grader but i might say BU55 or is it AU55... idk but ya i like that maybe i don't need 65 plus because that is a beauty
Oh on by the way im 14 with no job.... im trying to get like a 1/10 gold coin for 150 or less or if theres bigger coins ill take those... i mean i guess i could go up if i really wanted to but idk i would be more confortable with less than 150
Well, the melt value alone on a 1/10 coin as of today is $128.89...and they do tend to carry a premium over spot. But, I think the $150 range would be doable. Being that you are 14...and since it is only February, I'm going to assume you haven't had a birthday yet. That would mean you were born in 1989. Maybe you should look for a 1989 1/10 American Gold Eagle. The came in either business strike or proof. Here is a 1989 1/10 AGE proof that sold on eBay for $164.25 shipped. A little over $150, but with a little shopping around who knows what you will find. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-AMERICAN-EAGLE-5-00-PROOF-1-10oz-ROMAN-NUMERALS-YEAR-ON-GOLD-COIN-/151235384392?pt=US_Bullion_Coins&hash=item233654d448&nma=true&si=MW8DASVrqSLEN2x9tQw%2BiIyETF0%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Just for the record...that coin had the following mintages: 1989 Business Strike: 264,790 1989-P Proof: 84,647 What is also really cool about the 1989 AGE (all AGEs from 86-91), the date is in roman numerals.
Is there any made in 1999 because that's when I was born... It's ok everyone makes mistakes. Thanks for the tips all throught this though.
Wow...I totally was off by a decade. It's been a very long day...I think I had a brain moment. Yes, they were made in 1999. Business strike mintage: 2,750,338 Proof: 48,428
