Gold Claim tag???

OK, correction. Someone [traced] over it with marker. I'm sorry, but to me it looks like gold paint over a piece of scrap steel and a permanent marker. Or even hobby paint. It doesn't look like it's from 1848.

I'm not offended or anything. I got it as a token of sorts. Just wanted to get the opinion of others. I have only been collecting for four years or so.
