    #2. In-hand the coin can be turned to catch the light to reveal details. A photo, being static, is "locked-in." I like the details in #2 over #1, and the less washed-out look over #3.

    Thank you all for contributing.

    2) was my personal choice purely from an aesthetics perspective but I felt that 1) represented the coin better in hand hence why it ended up being my choice.

    Choosing a coin photo is as hard sometimes as choosing a coin. I wonder to what extent our tastes are informed by the photos we see in auction catalogues, which in many cases look nothing like the coin in hand...
