For those of you buying gold coins, do you buy A) modern gold American eagles or B)pre 1933 US gold issues, slabbed and not?

Or do you collect a mix of both?

I like Canadian Maple Leaves. They're typically cheaper than AGE's and Pandas, with better purity at 99.99%. I can't justify paying more for an older, less pure, less quality piece when the price is already as high as it is, but maybe I'm just small potatoes.

neither. But I buy bullion like Krugerrands. Maples are too soft for me. AGE are too expensive.
And of course I buy these raw, unslabbed.

Mostly I buy pre-33 gold and that's across the board, both US and Mexico. Oh and I buy them comando=unslabbed!! :D

I ask because it seems that pre 1933 gold is not that much more than modern issues. I guess there is the danger that the pre 1933 could be a fake, and they contain a little less gold, but when gold was cheaper, I remember pre 1933 coins going for a larger premium percentage wise.
