Hey wait a minute. You are not referring to me when you say we are all equal. I thought everyone knew I am better than everyone else on Earth.:thumb:
Meanwhile back to key coins. I've mentioned this before. Although I've been collecting for a really long time, not all keys are available regardless of money. They just aren't there. Even if I was a little on the rich side, which I'm not, they just are not available. I've got Albums with slots for the 1913 Liverty Head Nickel, the 94S Liberty Head Dime, etc.
Being a Whitman Album person I learned a long time ago I could just make my own Albums. I purchase blank covers, pages and those rub off Gold letters/numbers. I really got ticked off with wierd, impossible or to me just stupid slots that Whitman says you must have. I've made Albums of no proofs, all proofs, no impossible coins, no key coins, etc. For example I have a Roosevelt Dime Album with no Proofs at all. I've made an Album with Flying Eagle, Indian Head and Lincoln Cents all in one Album. Of course I left out all the proofs and error coins. Why should I have to have a 55 Double Die just beause Whitman says so. Why should I have to have a large and small date 1970S just because Whitman says so.
Key coins are nice, worth money, makes your collection worth more, but I just don't think they are the purpose of this hobby. I collect coins, not valuable things. There are always those that think only about money, money, money. I just collect coins.

falling on a sword is an expression that someone acts like an injured party to gain attention. It comes from the military. I guess in theory people would fal on their swords to get discharged, Let me be more blunt. Nobody has ridiculed you or mistreated you on cointalk since you arrived. I read nearly every post. But you have repeatedly posted that you have felt wronged or unwelcome. Your of course welcome but the "I'm been hurt by people on cointalk" stuff gets a bit weary to read over and over and over and over again.

BTW as per how you get deleted from cointalk I point you to Peter's FAQ

    http://www.cointalk.com/forum/faq.php

If you really feel your being abused I suggest not posting it to threads and contacting Peter instead and maybe he can iron out whatever problem you seem to be experiencing.

IS that a sincere question? If so, then yes. They are exotic to most people. I tend to put a write up explaining the coins when I show off my foreign coins, and yours are more exotic than mine.

i never thought those coins could be exotic. but on a good note i have found several rare varieities in ym cllection during the course of my reasearch which will allow me to cherrypick with fun and ease.

Tom, As was mentioned there are many forums on the web. I lurk at most of them but I post on this one. I'm not in the upper echelon of coin collecting. I'm a coin collector that collects coins. If there was a poor man's forum I would only see what I already have. I WANT to see those $10,000 coins. I WANT to see those beautiful high end notes. While I do have some key coins they have all come from trading up my lower end coins. No one here has ever told me my coins were not worth posting. No one here has ever told me that their coin was better than my lower grade coin. What I have gotten is an education from folks that don't know me or JUDGE me based on what grade my coins are. If some one tells me my coin is junk and that's the worst thing that ever happens to me for the rest of my life, Well damn, I've got it made! What helps me is that I really don't care how much somebody for paid something, be it a car or a house or a coin. I care what I paid for whatever it may be. I work hard for what I have and I'm sure that the people that can afford that $300,000 houses work hard too. We just have different jobs. Some pay more , some less. Now on to more pressing issues. If I can afford them. I get the keys first because no matter the grade , they always increase in value. What I can afford today may not be what I can afford tomorrow....................................................John

Funny thing yesterday....was eating at my favorite Chinese restaurant and broke open my fortune cookie. The message made me think of this thread that has jumped the shark!

"Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think."

Perhaps where we are on life's journey will determine what mixture of the two one experiences.

Has anyone bought a 1927-S Quarter lately? I have been looking at graded
Standing Libertys for a while now. Available? Heck yes. Affordable?
    Heck no.

Mine or yours? Mine, I had to ask what they are because I only had an estimation on the dates and designs and we posted external sources on what was researched.

But what if you ARE better than the king? Better yet what if you think your the king? And what is wrong with being the king of the dungeon? :goofer:

I have two 1927-S SLQs that are raw and they have been in my collection for some time.
First is one I bought at a lawn mower shop [of all places] for about $30 and it is probably VG to fair. It's a decent coin. The second was bought at a yard sale and was included in a type set kind of thing mounted in a picture frame. The cost of that was peanuts but you can hardly make out the S mintmark with a 10X loupe.
But to answer the question, Numismedia lists these prices for the 27-S:
    VG-8 $58
    F-12 $127
    VF-20 is a whopping $432
    ************************
So in summary if you want to go up to an EF-40 or anything like it you can expect to pay one thousand dollars. I am looking in the $300 to $400 range for a graded and slabbed 1927-S.
Several times I have put off the hunt. There are plenty out there and always some on eBay, coin shows, and the magazines.
