Folks who know me know I am into low grade early large cents and current counterfeits, an odd couple of sorts...

I know very little about Gallery Mint replicas other than I have seen a couple in the past worn and weathered to try to deceive unwary collectors they are the real deal, but careful inspection and proper attribution can always (so far) smoke them out.

So, here is a latest add to my odd collection- it was noted as a GMM overstruck on a genuine later date large cent. Waiting to get it in-hand and have a go at evaluating the understrike.

Anyone out there see something like this?

Images include one of the GMM "1799 large cent" replica as comparison.

Never seen anything like that. Why would they even do that?

What a waste of a coronet head large cent.
