First, this coin was a gift from my father. A special gift like this is an object in which you can hold and look at but it is also capable of helping you recall a memory. This memory is capable of transporting you to a different place and time. I still smile and think of my father every time I look at it and that is one of the reasons why it is so special to me. This coin also brings together two of my biggest interests in both coins and in Japanese culture. </p><p><br /></p><p>First, from a numismatic perspective this coin has all the beauty one would expect from a coin minted to a celebrate such a regal and special day. The distinct proof matte finish against a polished mirror like background helps the cameo depiction stand out so boldly. With only 100,000 minted the rarity helps make it collectible in yet another way.</p><p><br /></p><p>The obverse of this coin depicts a phoenix different from the fiery creature we know in western mythology but beautiful nonetheless.
