The coin was minted to commemorate the 300th anniversary of rule by the Romanov family, and shows the first Czar next to the &quot;current&quot; czar in 1913 - Nicholas II. But, what no one knew is that a few years down the line Nicholas II would be toppled, Imperial Russia would become the Soviet Union, and Nicholas II would go down as the last Russian czar when he is murdered. So, the coin was originally minted as a celebration of 300 years of rule - and instead ended up as a summary of beginning and tragic end of 300 years of a family line and Imperial Russia as we knew it.</p><p><br /></p><p>On a more personal note, I am Russian, and this coin was passed down to me from my grandfather (my grandfather got it from his father) and was the very first coin in my collection.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
