For this contest I will post a coin that I have not posted before. It is an 1844 seated liberty half dollar in VF35. I like the coin because of the very original surfaces and because of its scarcity. I also like the fact that the date is a pretty early one for the seated liberty series. I know the pics arent great but they are the best I can do for now. Here it is:
A coin, I was given from my grandma. The coin which got me interested in collecting and is from the year my namesake was born, my great-grandpa.
Although this coin isn't of any value, and not in decent condition I just like the toning and the way this worn out IHC looks.
... So, are you saying my MS63 NGC '21 Peace I posted in this thread isn't gorgeous because it's not "low-grade"?!?! Hahaha... ... JK of course. -Brian
I came across this coin a few weeks ago at an auction and just had to have it. It combines 2 of the things I love, coins and Colts. I wasn't letting this one get away, I overpaid for it but it was well worth it.
Thanks for the contest, my entry is the very first Peace Dollar I ever bought. At first I didn't really see myself interested in these as the design just didn't stand out for me. Then I saw this one and it took several days of looking at it over and over in the shop before it grew on me enough to really appreciate the design. The tone was also something that drew me in and while a common date with a soft strike, I've come to really like these and hope to manage a few more...
This one was tough!! I thought about putting my 71D Ike with the Talon head, jaw clash, etc... (lol) because it is not only a cool example of the Ike varieties but also holds sentimental attachments from how I aquired it about 15 years ago. Instead I went with my newest acquisition that has a cool story too! I got this 1865 (fancy 5) recently on an auction site-Listia-for...wait for it....FREE. Yep, free shipping and I won it with credits from getting rid of some of my old junk. I don't mean to sound like an advertisement for the site, but how much better can you do on such a great coin?! I looked some up on ebay and couldn't believe the difference in condition that I was finding, so now I'm more proud than ever of my newest coin! Thank you so much for the really cool contest!!
As a side note, I just wanted to share the great news with you all that I just won a beautiful vf+ 1864 large motto 2 cent piece from the same seller on Listia (there's that FREE word again)-who happens to be from the Buffalo area about an hour away. I'm looking into joining the BNA which is near the seller because it's the closest thing to me and I love coins enough that I plan to travel to whatever shows I can get to. I will post the pics under newest acquisitions coins when it arrives! Thank you again for the contest!
I purchased this coin for Nine Cents out of a world coin bin and sold it recently for Two Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars even, making it the largest profit I have made off of a single coin to date...
Picked this up at the ANA World's fair last month. Probably the most gratifying coin purchase I've made to date. Cool design, short run, relatively low mintage. The Classic head is a classic. Was high on my list. Definitely my new 'fav'. ( BTW, I just re-newed for 3 more years..... but I'll gladly tack on 3 more! )
Favorite? That would be tough. But here are three of my favorites: and: and finally: Why: well, I guess that I am a Barber nut.
I like so many coins & type. US coins are at the top of my list I also like World Silver coin to!!! Morgan thur Bust&Seated Dime and all US cent
