Not that you have not seen this one before, but I like color. I like the wood grain. This one has them both, and both are nice.

I like this coin because of its age, and the story behind it. It was also a gift from my grandma, so it's got that goin' for it :)

    Native American Silver Strike

I love the old west. Here is a Silver Strike from a Casino in Las Vegas. It's not only great looking, but was fun to win.

In Case there is controverery about the Silver Strike not being a coin.

I'm, a sucker for any old type coins. Here is one of my favorites because they just aren't around in circulation any more.

The coin in the picture is not in a PCGS slab. Did you perhaps mean NGC? Or was it slabbed after this picture was taken?

    Matt,
    Great contest!
ANA is awesome and we should all be members. 3 free years would give me time to save up and get to a Life Member like you.

    Why do I like them?
Well the history of them is just cool to me. Knowing how and why they were made and spent.

    Thanks for the chance.

Great contest Matt! I've really enjoyed viewing and reading about the many cool coins on this thread.

This is an AustroHungarian 100 Corona Gold coin. This is my favorite coin because I inherited it from my Grand-Father who was Hungarian, but was actually born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1914. For me, the Image of Emperor Franz Joseph on the obverse, and the double headed Austrian Eagle on the reverse evoke memories of a time long gone by; one of Kingdoms, Empires and Monarchs that crumbled in the wake of World War I as they gave way to modern, democratic forms of government. It was the assasination of Franz Joseph's son, the Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand, that sparked WWI in 1914. This coin speaks to me as to how much the world has changed in the last 100 years, and of course it reminds me of my Grandfather.

    1999 Japanese Gold 10,000 Yen - 10th Anniversary of the Emperor's Enthronement

First off, thank you for the wonderful contest!

I love this coin for many reasons besides the fact that it is made from a precious metal. First, this coin was a gift from my father. A special gift like this is an object in which you can hold and look at but it is also capable of helping you recall a memory. This memory is capable of transporting you to a different place and time. I still smile and think of my father every time I look at it and that is one of the reasons why it is so special to me. This coin also brings together two of my biggest interests in both coins and in Japanese culture.

First, from a numismatic perspective this coin has all the beauty one would expect from a coin minted to a celebrate such a regal and special day. The distinct proof matte finish against a polished mirror like background helps the cameo depiction stand out so boldly. With only 100,000 minted the rarity helps make it collectible in yet another way.

The obverse of this coin depicts a phoenix different from the fiery creature we know in western mythology but beautiful nonetheless. The reverse shows off the royal Chrysanthemum Crest which highlights the simplistic beauty of Japanese art and culture I so great appreciate.

I hope the pictures of the coin can bring even a smidgeon of the joy it brings me.

    Thanks again!

  15. My favorite coin is a 1910 20 franc from the Eliasberg collection. My father bought it for me and I just love the thought of having a coin that was once a part of one of the world's finest collections.

OK, here's mine. This is a 1925 St. Gaudens Double Eagle. It is a common date but it holds a special place in my collection. This coin was aquired by my grandmother in the 1970s. She won it in a drawing. She owned this coin for about 30 years. Since I was the only coin collector in the family, when she passed away a couple years ago I was left all the coins she had saved in little tins. Most were just foreign coins, which I kept and labeled as being from her. But, it also included this coin.

I decided to send it to PCGS to get it slabbed and protected. It returned
graded MS64 and will forever hold a special spot in my collection.

    Thanks for the contest!

This was my first sestertius, and the great style and detail made it worth putting up with the damage.

    1921 Peace Dollar - NGC XF 45.jpg

The 1921 Peace Dollar is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful coins which I can afford, I think it looks even better in lower grades because the rims show more, making the relief of the coin look even nicer. This is my example, graded XF45 by NGC, I picked it because it was a lower grade, which makes the details look better in my opinion, but still high enough to preserve many details which are lost at lower grades (Plus I could afford it and got it as a reward, my dad said that if I got over a 2k on my SAT he would pay half of what it costed.)

I want to win so badly, I want to get some coins slabbed but would rather buy coins than pay to join an organization, since I won't be selling the coins I would slab. Winning would help me to submit the coins which mean a lot to me to NGC for grading and encapsulation.
