Very well said, and interesting input. Ancients seem like a whole other animal to modern coin collecting. Thanks for being open to future questions
Welcome to CoinTalk. You have received much good advice in this thread. You might consider getting the Zander H. Klawans handbook on collecting Greek & Roman coins. I also recommend the John Anthony book on collecting Greek coins. (I am reading the Anthony book for a second time right now). These two books are very low cost (like $7 to $15). You might also want to review previous threads at CoinTalk. You can search any ancient coin subject by using the search feature at the upper right corner of this page. When you have a question, you can post it at CT or send me a private message through CT. BTW, I am an amateur compared to the resident panel of experts at CT.
WE HAVE COOKIES!!!!! Welcome to the dark side, I recommend going to a website called "dirty old coins" for uncleaned ancients, most of what's on Ebay is junk. GLHF. GO FOR BROKE!!!!!!!
Yes, it is a completely different animal than regular collecting, and I mean that in a good way. Conservative grading, (EF is about the higest ancient grade), all of our coins have been cleaned so no nt/at or cleaned arguments, and almost universal good people simply loving history. Ask a question here and we love to help. Ah, I still remember the day Collect bought his first ancient. I would not call him an amateur though. Let us know if we can help, we love talking about ancient coins!
