I have these three lead cast quarters that are probably made around the time that the legal tender design circulated. One was actually made by my grandfather, and this is the story. I remember when Pop pop died in 1962, my uncle and my father were down in the basement of Nana's house rooting around. I still remember how it looked down there but I was probably only 5 or 6 years old. The old wringer washer, push mowers, the closed porch with all those antique tools, coffee cans and jars on the shelves. Wish I could go back in time for that hour again! My father and uncle went through a box and a small snap closing coin purse appeared. The laughed that my Pop pop was so tight that he cast this 1926 Standing Liberty Quarter in a bar of soap. I was tagging along and they let me look at it as they joked. They pointed out that he even scratched his name on the back with pride for some reason. In 2001 that little purse was left to me when my father died. Lo and behold this was in there amidst other odds and ends in the purse. Wonder how many slugs he passed off back then at Abby's Anchor, the corner barroom? This one is a 1876 CC Seated Quarter I bought as a fake. It is far darker, as all three are that I am showing in this post. They are all practically black from age. The lighting from my camera and the photoscape program was used to show better detail on all images. Finally, a pretty darn good job was done to make this lead 1937 S Washington Quarter. I think I was given this via another coin forum member about 12 years ago.
