AV Friedrich d'or 1777-A Berlin Mint Friedrich II "Der Grosse" Konig von Preussen-Brandenburg During the Seven Years War, his Prussian Armies faced three Empires (Russian/ French/ Holy Roman) and won!
I am not sure about the damage. This is aluminum, at first it appeared to be PMD but then why would it appear under the devices...
I'd have to agree with you, @Razz. That sure appears to have been an issue originally with the blank or planchet. Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see that gouge at the two o'clock position closer. I'm not looking for anything specific - just wanna see what it looks like. Is it sharp? In any case . . . Neat! Thanks for sharing.
Anhalt/ Dessau/ Herzogtum AV 20 Mark 1904-A Berlin Mint Friedrich II Germany should have kept that "Eagle" rather then the modern one!
I don't know, @panzerman. Are you implying the eagle on your beautiful 1904-A 20-mark? Or expat's excellent 1975-J five deutsche mark? If the the former, I think that eagle had too many associations with imperialism, militancy, Prussia and the House of Hohenzollern. I rather appreciate the variety of eagle designs coming out of the BRD. Expat's is an example of just one. Here's just a very small sampling that I threw together . . . These are all from deutsche marks. The variety continues with euros.
I prefer the classical eagles/ Imperial Rome/ Holy Roman Empire/ Prussian/ 1871-1918 versions/ Yugoslavia/ St. Gaudens
Actually all Germans owe a debt of thanks too Prussia. Without Prussia, there may have never been a unified Country. Most German States where under Foreign control rule.
