This one seems a scarcer year in the series. There seem to be a few out there for sale but all quite low grade.

Obv:- The Imperial German arms (Imperial eagle with small shield) with the mintmark (G - G) near the edge below the foot of the eagle
    Rev:- DEUTSCHES REICH 1896 / 10 / • PFENNIG •
    Date: 1896
    Minted in Karlsruhe

Mintage : 200,000 (low mintage year)
    Reference:- KM#12

A 200k mintage on a world coin isn't considered a low mintage. Yes in the US coins a 200k mintage would be considered low...but a European country like Germany a 200 k mintage is average mintage.
Is this another find in the biscuit tin?

What makes this rarer is the G mint mark.see link

The 1896G is a lower mintage date in the series - I will have to disagree with the above, and say that 200k can be a low mintage date for some of the larger European issuers. This being said, as a rule, Karlsruhe put out fewer coins than the other branch mints during this period, and as such, there are quite a few years where production touches this figure. My experience is that there are few collectors trying to assemble a complete set of all dates / mintmarks for the smaller change denominations, and as such, premiums are hard earned even on scarcer coins. This being said, yours is in good condition, and remains a saleable piece.

Scarce dates doesnt matter to much one these coins. I do have an 1892 10 Pfennig from the Karlsruhe mint also called rare on numista:

Congrats on that low mintage 1896G 10 pfennig. I collect the non-silver German Empire, Weimar Republic, and Third Reich coinage by date and mintmark. The vast majority were pulled from the LCS world coin “junk” box. I do not have the 1896G, but do have a similar 1892G (mintage 300,000).

The tougher German coins collected over the past 30 years or so are 1873D pfennig (mintage 52,000) purchased from a dealer in a 2x2, 1885E pfennig from junk box, with luster which came back ANACS MS 63. Others from junk box 1876J pfennig, (2) 1891J pfennig, unc. 1873A 2 pfennig, 1904J 2 pfennig (44,000 mintage), 1875H, 1891E (173,000 mintage) 5 pfennig; 1873G, (2) 1894E (260,000 mintage) 10 pfennig; 1923F 50 rentenpfennig KM 34 (120,000 mintage)

A 1901A 50 pfennig (90% silver) KM 15 (194,000 mintage) was purchased from a dealer in a 2x2. An 1873D mark(mintage 244,000) was pulled from the world coin junk silver box.

The German, as is other world silver coinage, is generally pulled, with few exceptions, from the world coin junk silver box in my pursuit of world type coinage.
