Hard green deposits sitting on the surface of coins are often hoard deposits. If the green appears to be below the coin surface....corrosion.

 

I respectfully must disagree. Corrosion on coins can appear above the surface or into it. Hoard coins can be corroded (before they are cleaned and disbursed). Unless the "patina" is pretty, and even - it's corrosion.
