Someone near me posted a coin for sale. The only description is “old foreign coin” and they don’t know much about the coin. They only want $50 for it, but I wanted to see if anyone could tell if it’s authentic or not? Thanks! [IMG][IMG]

my 2002 world coin catalog has this coin values at:
    F-$1,000 VF-$1,600 XF-$2,250 UNC-$3,000

for $50.00 hmmmm something does not sound right.
I still would have it looked at by someone.

So... if it was real and the owner doesn't know what he has, he's fair game for a rip, but you really need to know if it's fake because it would be terrible to suffer the same fate you would happily bestow upon him? Did I miss anything?

it's current value sure did jump up in $$$. I wonder what the mintage is on this coin ?

Overall soft and mushy features (typical of a cast counterfeit) rather than normal wear, something verrrrry odd going on at the rim between 6-7 o'clock on the obverse, suspiciously low offering price from an unknown party... Personally, I would not spend even $1 on this piece.

I agree. It looks like the '1804 silver dollar' the Chinese dealer has at my flea market. :(
