German States (Brunswick-Lüneberg-Calenberg-Hannover): 1702 silver 24-mariengroschen, "Wildman" type

    NGC AU55. Cert. #6342274-008. Numista-39913, Krause-Mishler 15.

Ex-Atlas Numismatics, 26 April 2023. Inventory #1071397. Prior pedigree to the Wolff-Metternich collection (noted on slab label).

These "Wildman" coins are very popular. The Wildman of myth and legend is sort of a European cousin to the Bigfoot creature in North America. I purchased a nice example of this type (also a 1702) at the 2023 FUN show in Orlando. That coin went "UNC details/cleaned" when submitted to NGC. So it was Mint State and had nice eye appeal, but I am particular about "details" grades. So I sold that coin and bought this very similar NGC AU55, with equal eye appeal and a straight grade (albeit a few points below MS).
