    One of the first coins in my collection, a gift from my uncle when I was a kid. I still have it and it will always be a special coin to me. Thanks for sharing!

    I purchase most of my Early Commemoratives slabbed. However, I bought my 1952 Washington/Carver raw because they're so common and cheap.

    Yes, the commemorative half that was authorized with the expressed purpose of the funds to be used to help stop the spread of Communism among the Negros. (That was the language in the authorization, in reality the money mostly went into the pocket of the coins promoter.)

    The original design had words to that affect on the reverse. The State Department asked the treasury to tone it down so as not to offend the Russians. So you got “Americanism” instead.
