No I would'nt buy this coin but I was curious about the Genuine slabs. GDJMSP was on to what I was thinking. Two guys send there coins in and one gets a Genuine slab and the other gets a G4 slab because his coin is rarer or more marketable. Just wondering how it worked is all. Lehigh thanks for the post that is alot of good info.

Y'know those annoying people who derail good discussions with ignorant questions? Brace yourself, here comes one now.

What do I look at on that coin to see that it's been cleaned? I've read about looking for guck in crevices and corners that's not elsewhere (I'm not seeing it, should I be?) and absence of luster (can you tell by a photo? Are the glowing highlights something other than luster?).

Is it that the coin looks way too evenly white to have lived in the real world for that amount of time?

The first link you gave has rim damage, and some funky stuff going down near the neck and the stars lol.

Its all good Sponge. Any coin that looks like its polished smooth all over has ussualy been cleaned at one time or another. This one looks to be even tho the pics are bad. If you could see it up close it would likely have small hairline scratches over the field and appear as if to be dead metal with no luster or toning.

Even with those terrible photos that coin looks like it has been polished.

NGS gives cleaned coins a grade designation and a details sub-designation (or at least they did) at one time. I have seen many of these bring more than greysheet for what I consider common Bust coins on Ebay. They may bring substantially over greysheet for rarer coin. To many collectors this may seem crazy, but it does happen.

To me this may be a plus for sending certain coins to NGS over PCGS if you have your doubts on cleaning. This is supposing you may want to sell the coin after grading.

I have purchased such coins on occasion. I have one from NGC graded O-118 VFDetails Improperly Cleaned.

Personally I feel this provides more value than simply getting it back PCGS Genuine.

Sorry I mis-typed in previous post. I meant NGC instead of NGS. I felt I should clarify since out there somewhere there is likely an NGS mis-grading coins...........
