A handsome gold Koson Stater sold for $3,867.50 last May 16, 2018 at CNG Auction 108, lot 27. See photo below, courtesy of CNG. Despite the huge quantity of these coins still on the market gem quality examples bring big bucks. On October of 2005 a gem quality Koson Stater caught my eye at Freeman & Sear's Mail Bid Auction #12, lot #96. I paid $1,210.00 for the coin & later felt stupid for paying so much , but didn't regret the purchase. I did have a slightly inferior example of the coin that I decided to send to Heritage Auctions with a large consignment of coins. Heritage promptly returned the coin to me & said they were no longer handling Koson Staters because the Romanian Government was confiscating examples appearing in worldwide auctions ! Anyway, I sent the coin to Great Collections the following year & the coin sold for $1,300.00. I still have the coin from the Freeman & Sear auction, & much to the ire of the "anti-slabbers" sent the coin to NGC to have it placed in a "plastic coffin", see photos below.
