    Makes you wonder why everyone looks for pre '82 cents when all these other coins are primarily copper. :)

    That's funny, it's says 1984 up are the same....author was lost! The current cent composition (copper plated zinc) started in 1982.

    Because getting 3 grams of copper for 1 cent is a better deal than 3.75 grams for 5 cents or 2.1 grams for 10 cents.

    Actually @BadThad, 1982 had both kinds, clad and Cu. Any significance difference or anything to be on the lookout for on that date?

    Only difference is weight and slamming them on a hard surface to hear the different sound (ie the ring test)
