Reintroducing geekpryde's "Box of 100" CAC Type Set My collection is growing again, after taking just about 10 years off from buying coins, I am back to actively collecting again as of a few months ago. I pulled out all my coins from the safe deposit box and have sent in coins to NGC for slabbing & re-slabbing, those coins then went to CAC to get re-stickered, and also I finally joined PCGS and have sent coins into them for both photographs in-slab (yes, they do that) and also I will be sending in a few coins soon to get re-slabbed that were just scratched beyond belief. Here is a Thread from 2014 about by Type Set (link added 9.21.2024) I am currently in a major reorganization, reordering the coins in my fixed-size collection, under “Box of 100” rules like many other collectors here on CoinTalk have done. One has to go out if I want to bring a new coin in, except that I have not even hit 100 coins total yet. Even though I have not filled by 100 spots, I have sold two or three coins a few years ago that bothered me for various reasons, and I knew that I no longer wanted them in my permanent collection. I am only now looking for and buying replacements. Taking a que from @lordmarcovan, I will now also name my collection: “The Maine One Hundred Coin Type Set”. I need a better name than that! A more apt name would be: "100 Business Strike Type Coins from the United States that are less than $500 and mostly CAC approved." But that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. I personally enjoy type collecting far more than collecting all dates and MM of a particular series. The overall "Theme" of the collection is to present the various big and small coin Designs over the last ~230 years of all denominations. I want to show as many "Types" over the history of the United States I can while remaining affordable to me. Borrowing from my own post in another thread, Here are my self-imposed rules for my "Box of 100" coins: 1. The coins must have been struck by the US Mint OR under a contract with the US Government (such as the Fugio Cent). 2. The coins will be Limited to Business strikes, NO proofs. (I do make a couple of exceptions for SMS coins) 3. I only include coins I actually like. So that means I mostly skip modern coin designs, therefore I am not trying to be exhaustive with getting one coin of every type. Just most types. 4. All coins will be slabbed by either PCGS or NGC, (or CACG) 5. Require a CAC coin when it's a stickered type. 6. All coins in the affordable Price range of $50-$500 per coin. I like to have a variety of grades for the coins, I do NOT have a consistent all-MS or all-circulated grades, so I include the gamut of low balls to super high grades. For many coins, this is dictated simply by price. If I can have a representative sample for the Type in high mint-state that I can afford I will include it, but I also love a good circulated-cameo coin with a low numeric grade. I also have a mini-Theme within my overall theme for 'cool' Slabs when possible. I enjoy the various slab generations from PCGS and NCG over the years. So I will highlight that for coins here and there with full slab shots. I will be updating this post as new coins come in, or with any other updates I may have, Hope you enjoy, - geekpryde

Coins with Slabs I really like, or are special in some way: As I previously wrote, I am a bit of a Slab collector, as well as a Sticker collector, and somewhere in the distance third, a coin collector. I used to own quite a few NGC NO-Line "Fatty" / "Soap" Slabs. I only have a few now. I really do love that slab. PCGS 3, Doily NOLINE FATTY NGC 7
I'm looking forward to seeing more of these. I imagine the posting alone is a daunting project. It took me a whole night to post all of mine in that last update! Agreed. Buy the best you can afford when you can, obviously, but a nice mixture of lower grade and MS is interesting to view. One could quickly go broke trying for all MS, anyway, unless one collects all moderns, and who wants to do that? Wanna see some of those CircCams! Man, that's a lot of CAC. I only have a few green beans. I don't chase them, but they're nice to have, obviously.
I see more photos showing up upon my second viewing. I guess this is maybe still under construction and will stay tuned. I'm also on a terribly slow connection at the moment. Seen so far: that 1795 cent is extremely handsome for an AG3. Very wholesome for the grade. Nice circ color on the Flying Eagle- well struck head, too. Nice 3cN and the 1858 half dime is a sweet little slider.
To spare you some future headaches with the expiring edit timetable, I think I have extended the editing privileges on Posts 1-12 for a longer chunk of time, so you don't have to keep asking moderators for extensions on each post in the event you want to do a future edit. But if I missed any, just click the "report" button to request someone reopen the editing privileges. Maintaining a thread like this when your editing privileges expire after 24 hours would have been a real problem, I'm thinking. Oh, wait! I forgot you're a mod yourself now! Never mind! You won't need help with that. LOL
There go the CircCams! Yay! The 1818 quarter and the 1872 dollar are about as perfect as a CircCam can get, in terms of contrast. Original circ Barber coins kind of tend towards that look, unless they got messed with.

yes, it took me about in hour to get these all loaded and named. I have more posts coming in the next few days. I need to show off some of these cooler slabs. Needless to say, this will be a pic heavy thread! Better upgrade that 56k Modem. For now, I need to take a break I think.
