    On certain coins, I disagree. When the pattern and colors match exactly on the obv and rev, it's a sign of AT

    There are certainly plenty of AT coins that nobody would mistake for NT.

    I don't believe there are any NT patterns that can't be artificially duplicated.

    I also believe some current "market acceptable" "naturally toned" coins are actually AT.

    I have no proof, though, so the only difference my belief makes is in my own purchasing decisions.

    @USNAFguy
    So you think that doing the AT and trying to pass it off as MA being in an NGC slab is perfectly OK? I applaud NGC for taking the cert # away. This is not only unethical but slightly fraudulent. It also makes your USNAF slabs more so. How is this type of behavior good for the hobby?

    This AT coin will be back up on eBay fairly soon. I am actually excited to see how this coin does on the auction block now that this thread exist. I know why I am doing this and no matter what is said I am certain my motivation is sound. This coin needs a new home and maybe the buyer will be able to say what happened after it is examined in person. The option to explain this toned Jeff nickel will be at the discretion of the winning bidder.

    Just my opinion but I believe that morgan dollar listed is an example of AT

    All means of exposing collector's to potential risks of buying coins is good for the hobby. Allegations made of both "scams" I am alleged to be perpetrating has us here sharing information and that is exactly what is good for the hobby!

    See? @baseball21 and @Lehigh96, “this is why we can’t have nice things”. The promotion and fetishization of toned coins leads DIRECTLY AND INEVITABLY to this kind of behavior and fraud. You cannot escape PERSONAL responsibility for this. Wear it. Own it.

    I know I am in the minority for toning, I've never denied that. I flat out don't care how it happened just the final result. If that result is very repeatable the prices will crash like a rock as it gets to common. Do I think the right looks are that repeatable no I don't, but if it happens so be it.

    The coin in question is a Monster
    I own it! However we definitely do not share a like-minded perspective as to what constitutes fraud. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but an opinion is all it is. I have not been formally charged in any criminal complaint in connection to this coin nor will any criminal allegations made ever be proven to be true. Please keep this in mind as you hurl your accusations at me! Let's try to remain civil here. I do respect all opinions but you are not a court of law nor are you a jury of my peers. Let's learn here not attack what we don't understand please!

    I look forward to having the coin that started this thread back on the auction block in a week. I will be away from this thread for one week and won't be posting. I look forward to the information that may be gained from this thread being continued and will be keeping an eye on it when possible. I will also let everyone know when the nickel is available again and I will have an alternative means of aquiring it just in case it is torpeded on eBay. Hopefully this will be helpful to the hobbyist that wish to learn and avoid buying problem coins. Best wishes to all who read this. Take care

    As a staff member of my state legislature’s House Consumer Affairs Commiittee (as of last night, who knows for next term), caveat emptor is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Consumer protection is paramount to me.

    “That’s what the law says” doesn’t end the argument where I work. We’re the dudes who CHANGE what the law says.

    Through my Chairman, I get to turn “my opinion” into bills and laws. As I have done on several occasions. Keep in mind, legislators almost never write law, staff usually does.
