This year I believe I will coast for a bit. Pick up some rolls each of the new nickels, Sac Dollar, and satin finish versions. I'd like to get 1 each of all the commemoratives this year. Also get a couple single BU State Quarters for my book. My subscriptions are generally one of each of the proof sets and 2 ea of the uncirculated sets and ASE's. As for projects I think I will break my Jefferson Nickel Collection into 3 collections. 1. BU 1938-2006 w/o Proofs. 2. Full Step 1938-2003 (2006?), and 3. 1938-1942: 1950-2006 Proofs. Ah well.. hopefully a bit of a cheaper year than last year.
Correct... minted from 1875 to 1878, though in 1877 and 1878 they were only minted in proof, not for circulation. This is the shortest lived denomination in US history. It didn't last long because it was nearly identical to a quarter... the obverse was pretty much exactly the same as the seated liberty quarters in circulation at the time, and the only major difference in the reverse was the denomination. And it had a slightly smaller diameter... but just barely. Everbody kept mistaking it for a quarter and it was very incovenient to deal with, and it was dropped very quickly. The only other coin that comes close to this kind of failure is the SBA dollar... but it was minted for circulation in 3 years (1979,1980,1999), and the 1 dollar denomination still survives, making the 20 cent king of failed coins, lol. I've always wanted one since I learned of their existance, and am making it a goal this year to set aside money to get one of these in decent condition.
Trying to get closer at finishing my Barber 10c, 25c, and 50c collections. Also tying to buy a couple more BUST quarters and other BUST coinage. In addition try to find unbelievable deals on coins. (usually only happens once a year!!!)
