@talerman Actually there are 2 different Spanish coins, a denier and an obol

that have the Es Safar date, a calendar system introduced by Augustus Caesar in

38 B.C. The Roman numerals on the coins are MCCIIII. Correcting for the

difference between the two calendar systems actually means that the coins

were minted 1166 A.D. I will send pics of both. The coins from Aachen and

Schoonvorst -Sichem are an interesting story. The 1372 Aachen Groschen has

been lost to the numismatic community either by war or theft, it is no longer

known. The same can be said for the 1373 piece. There are approximately 11-20

collectible pieces for the 1374 Aachen Groschen. These are pieces that are

available to collectors either by auction or price list. They appear once every

2-3 years. I have two pieces differentiated by the vestments (robe) that

Charlemagne is wearing and the position of the Orb he is holding. There are

also varieties regarding the date. There are varieties concerning the date for

the 1375 coins, I only have one. The same holds true for collectable population

and auction/pricelist opportunities.

Now for the Schoonvorst coinage. The 1372 Gros is known by one example,

it is located in a museum. The coinage dated 1390-1394 is almost impossible

to own. The 1391 is the "easiest" of the group, I own one. The 1393 has less

than 10 possibilities to own and they are in STRONG hands. The other three

are so rare that you have a better chance of finding a 1933 Double Eagle or

an 1804 Silver Dollar in the reject tray at your local CoinStar!! If this game

ends before I get to show my pre 1400 A.D. coins, I will send pics of them to you and any other interested parties. I will relate what I know a little later concerning

the 1234 Roskilde piece.
