This came from a Stacks(?) sale roughly twelve years ago having been in the Riever Collection. This is a seriously rare piece, as until it appeared, no example had come to market in over 40 years, with Spink&#039;s Circular listing in 1968 being the last on record. It is also worth noting that based on die polishing, it is actually earlier than the KH4 above.</p><p>[ATTACH=full]1591592[/ATTACH]</p><p><br /></p><p>Taylor also made an extensive series of restrikes dated 1795. It is possible to establish the chronology of type R42 by checking the degree of die polishing. The obvious differences are the single strand of hair on the neck which points in the opposite direction, but has in fact been completely re-engraved and the curls below the bust. Traces of the curls seen below the truncation are visible on the earlier strike Peck 1053 above, which was probably the reason NGC called that coin a P1051, despite not being one.
