How does 1 Rin compare to 1/2 Sen? I have a 1882 1/2 sen but no picture.

    1/10 of a sen or 1/1000 of a yen.

Which makes it 1/5 of the half sen.

Well, if you are posting Morgans here is a 1882S. One of the ugliest looking coins I own, at least on the obverse.

This thread is great! Every time I come back to this thread I learn something new.

This Romania coin was posted yesterday in the "World Coin UNO thread":

Can someone tell me what could be going on in the upper left side of the obverse of this coin? Looks like metal on top of the lettering here.

It is difficult to decipher the raised metal when the coin is worn.

    Perhaps the die was damaged.

Perhaps is a lamination (planchet error) where the letters have somehow been worn away and the raised metal remains. It would be more likely that the piece fell away but that would not necessarily leave a raised area.

The raised metal is a puzzlement & I'm not being much help. :)
