There was a very rich merchant Jakob Fugger, he was the banker for Holy Roman Emperor Friedrich III and later Maximilian I, mainly to finance wars. Mercenaries were paid in gold coin.
HRE Karl V rewarded the Fugger Family by giving them title to lands in modern Germany. Thus the Fugger Family, had a Grafschaft in their name. There is a beautifull AV 10 Dukaten gold coin in Smithsonian display, to die for. Thats that sad part of being a coin collector, you can never obtain the dreamy coins. Always comes down to "empty pockets"
