The only thing in my picture archive with the date 1783 on it is this old lead bag seal. I assume it is a date and not a batch number, but who knows.

Historical note: In 1790 when HRE Josef II died/ The European Kürfursten or Electors selected Grand Duke Leopold as the next Holy Roman Emperor. Sadly he would pass two years into his reign.

 

I can do that in a way - Spanish 8 reales dated 1781 and minted in Mexico, countermarked with the head of George III for circulation as a 5 Shilling Crown in Britain.
These were captured by the Royal Navy and British privateers as the came across the Atlantic from the Spanish colonies in Central and South America. There was a great shortage of coinage in the UK at the time, so they were simply marked and re-issued.
The joke at the time was "the head of a fool on the neck of an ass"!
