Malaysia - 1 Ringgit - 1969 - 10th anniversary of the National Bank
Rep. of Biafra 1969 Proof Set 25/10/5/2/1 Pound
Biafra broke away from Nigeria in 1967 as an independent Republic. Nigeria then had an organized genocide vs the Biafrans thru stravation. The UN as usual did nothing....
@panzerman That coin from Biafra definitely sends a strong message but one has to wonder how many people in that country can afford such a gold coin to feel inspired by its design.
Netherlands - 2 1/2 Gulden - 1969 - Queen Juliana
Portuguese Angola - 2,5 Escudos - 1969
If, they had been supported by the UN/ World/ the State of Biafra had vast oil resources. So, many of the more prosperous could have afforded a set. I remember buying it from the Valcambi Mint for $950.00. The Swiss (Valcambi Mint) worked with Biafran designers to produce the beautifull coins. One of the nicest coins struck in 20 th Century. Esp. compared with the crappy mint productions today/ UK excluded. The RSA was one of a handfull of nations that supported Biafran Independence.
I have still 900 golden+ coins to keep this thread going strong.
