It would appear it is safe to move on to 1998.

A flock of 1998s! We have some from The Gambia, Canada, Argentina, Guatemala, and Brazil.

One of the last of its kind. In 1998 the 50 ore coin was the only ore denomination still minted in Sweden. However, Inflation made it impractical too, and the 50 ore was demonetized in 2010. An ore denomination, first introduced as a minor coin in 1522, was no longer minted … for the second time. The ore was previously discontinued from 1778 to 1854, during a new monetary system in Sweden, but was born again as the minor unit of a decimal system in 1854.

I have a collection of ore that dates back to the 1500’s. It's an interesting series with with zinc, and iron coins in WW1 & WW2, massive copper coins in the 1600's, large square copper coins from the 1600's, and debased silver coins with the likeness of kings in the 1500's.

    1998 Sweden, 50 ore, issued 1992-2009, demonetized 9/30/2010, bronze.

Below is an old family photo of some coins in the collection. I’ve added some since. Stay tuned.

You know, I'm feeling a bit self-conscious being the one to bring in the new year so often. Time to move to 1997?

We got a gaggle of 1997s; or is it a murder of 1997s? Haiti, Zimbabwe, Eritrea, New Zealand, Netherlands, Bolivia, Canada, Bermuda, Brazil, and Mexico.

I suspect a lot of members, like me, are waiting for the dates to get a bit earlier. Although I have GB coins since decimalisation, I haven't photographed many.

Agreed. My help will be sporadic at best until we get past 1900. That said, I do have this coin from Portugal for 1997

Both also 1996, no denomination but apparently official Thai mint issues (medals?). One for the 50th anniversary, the second for the cremation of the King mother, the reverse depicting her crematorium. "The Royal Cremation took place on 10 March 1996, for which an elaborately carved Royal Crematorium, or Phra Merumas, was built in the centre of Sanam Luang, symbolizing the mythical mountain abode of the Hindu gods. Crowds lined the street as the golden urn of rank was transported on the Royal Great Victory Carriage, or Phra Maha Pichai Ratcharot, in a solemn procession from the Grand Palace to the Royal Crematorium. This Royal Cremation Ceremony was one of the biggest events Thailand has witnessed in modern times, attended by thousands of people and watched on television nationwide".
