This Goldgulden was minted in Frankfurt. It's amazing at the condition
medieval gold coins are found. Most are very nice, almost as struck and
well struck. I believe the reason for this is that the average citizen did
not use gold coins. The coins were used as a store of value and trade
by wealthy merchants, municipalities and the Church. Most everyday
transactions were handled by barter or silver coin. Any info concerning
    this would greatly be appreciated.

It is, after all, 521 years old and a coin of the people which circulated (unlike panzerman's gorgeous ducats which spent almost all their lives in a bank vault). You (and we) can't be too fussy !

If and when you guys get down to 1364, then I can post 1 more - but that's it for me :( It is however one that I think everybody has seen before.

    1497 - 11 - 140a - Namur Copper R - 2 copy.jpg
This is a copper piece minted in Namur. For some reason copper coinage
during this time period (1400-1500 AD ) is rare and borders on very rare.
I am guessing that the copper was used for armament and household
items. Please share your thoughts on this. I believe there are less than
25 different issues with the Netherlands and Italy issuing the bulk pieces.
    This is a Double Mite.

I believe that this piece is also copper or billon. Billon is a copper
silver mix where there is less than 10% silver. I could be wrong.
Corrections to any of my statements are always welcome. This
was produced at the Zwolle mint. Per Levinson less than 6 are known.
    This is a Quarter Plak.

A Ducat minted in Hamburg. There are two varieties for
this issue, a thinner Madonna. The piece @panzerman posted
is one of far superior quality.
