Beautiful coin but 1567 is, of course, a year when it was struck under Charles' actual rule. Perhaps you should try to complement it with a posthumous 1575 issue under Henri III's rule or an issue under Charles' rule still struck in the name of Henri II (1560-62).

Undated but circa 1560 thaler from Zürich. It's impressive for the early use of the roller press by the pioneering mintmaster Hans Jakob Stampfer.

Beautifull design too:happy: Our Canadian Mint masters do not have the artistic talents to produce such beautifull pieces....pity. Here is the ugly $1 million dollar gold coin.
Compare that to my AV 6 Dukaten from Estonia 1644 header-bg.jpg 57ebafc7af932ce344b8eae78f857772.jpg

Isn't Riga in Latvia or Swedish Livonia rather than Estonia ? Doesn't change the fact that it is an outstandingly beautiful coin

You got me, I must have had a braincramp:shame::shame::shame::shame::shame::shame: But, it just showed how much more effort was made to produce magnificent coinage back in the day. Well shown by examples you, jgenn and others have been posting over last months. I saw Rauch had a "modern" copy of a Holy Roman Empire AV 30 Dukaten Leopold I 1683. Some rich collector had hired a real expert engraver to make it. Pretty neat looking 105 g. gold coin. But, I have never seen the original in auctions.

Yeah, you could not tell the "modern" circa 1960 copy from original. Almost as if they found the original 1683 Vienna Mint 30 Dukaten die. I actually bid on it, since I could never afford original (2 million euros or more) But it went for triple my bid. It was a 1678 Graz Mint 30 Dukaten. I you had that in your pocket, you would feel it. 4d31259d070080531dd2e60c3948fa10.jpg

We are at 1560;) But nice Marianas coin. This was a German, before 1918. The Allies seized all German Colonies after WW1 and made them British/ French/ US/ Belgian Colonies. This was part of the harsh Versailles Treaty, which led to WW2.

Another 1560 thaler, this one is from Saxony, minted in Dresden by Hans Biener, mintmaster.

Since we're still at 1560, here's one that just left my collection. Mansfeld thaler Eisleben mint.

Salzburg (literally Salt Fortress in German) had important salt mines in the nearby mountains that contributed to its wealth. St. Rupert, on the reverse, carries a salt cellar.
