This is a long way from panzerman's gorgeous dukat but here is a humble 1670 1/16 Taler ( or Düttchen) from Bremen & Verden when ruled by Karl XI of Sweden. The AH on the reverse is Andreas Hille, mint master in Stade from 1670-76.

Thank You! Just glad to be able to help.

I forgot to mention the great coin reform of the Frankians and Charles the Great in circa 794. To create more trust for the (coming) emperor´s coins, Charles raised the weight of the Denar with 1.7 grams.

1 pound of silver (Latin libra, this is were the short form lb comes from) was based on 20 sous (Latin solidus) that again was based on 240 deniers (Latin denarius).
Pound and Sous were during this time accounting units, and only Denier were used as coin.

This teases us to perhaps guess that 1 Öre could have represented 1/8 pound of silver that time.

Here is a 1668 luigino of Lucca.
Lucca Luigino 1668 obv 062.jpg Lucca Luigino 1668 rev 063.jpg
As you may well know, the story of luigini (sometimes spelled luidgini) is an interesting one. In 1659 Anne-Marie-Louise de Bourbon, King Louis XIII of France's niece, after a turbulent life, retired to her territories in Dombes. According to de Mey, she reactivated the old mint at Trévoux and started striking coins inspired by the king's issues. One of these issues, the 1/12 écu or 5 sols, was very well received in the Orient where people gave it a value of 10 sols. Soon the major part of the production at the Trévoux mint was devoted to these very profitable coins for the Levant trade. The French royal 5 sols of Louis XIII and XIV were equally well received. It was not long before many Italian (and also German, Swiss and other) mints started to strike copies for export to the Orient, including the city of Lucca. The reverse of this Lucca luigino bears the arms of Dombes.

Luigini were therefore an earlier mini-version of the Maria Theresia Talers as a trade currency. However, overproduction, including an increasing number of lower silver content coins struck by various greedy nobles, led to their plunging in value and the boom ended almost as quickly as it had begun.

    Sure I do !

She didn't even had to reactivate it as it already was in business. Her father Gaston d'Orleans (brother of king Louis XIII, thus uncle of king Louis XIV) had huge amounts of coinage struck in his name at Trevoux mint until 1654. although Anne Marie Louise ruled in her own name AD 1650, but only starded to strike in her own name from 1657 onward.

Here are two Anne Marie Louise d'Orleans luigini (the "real" thing as opposed to to the numerous imitations from all over Europe). First a 1668 to make it legal in the thread, but it's a bit crude, and a 1664 one just to show how good they can be
