My 1739 is a fourpence - sometimes described as Maundy but at this date certainly circulation too:

Yesterday was Hamm, today is Hamburg (notice the "HAMBURGER" in the legends).

You said that you could take the game to 1670s, if I remember correctly. Outstanding. (Unfortunatly though British coins before Charles II are not dated). I am a type collector, my dates are few and far between. I look for a champion like you and the others to carry me along. I wonder if there is a champion beyond the 1670s. I recently purchased my oldest dated coin from 1592. Even if we runout of champions, I hope we continue in some way.

I must admit that I intentionally bought a 1519 coin with a clear and legible date on it, hoping we could keep going until then and perhaps I could win something? I fear that we might come to some uncrossable gap and the game might end then and there. I do have a few from the 1600s as well.

We should be able to get back to 1498, with no delays. I seem to recall someone mentioning that they had 1497, so the first year this thread might stall at is 1496.

The year 1491 seems to be difficult, if you limit yourself to European AD-dated coins, and 1464 may not exist at all. The similar thread over at CCF had to rely on AH-dated coins to get past 1491 (after a multi-year wait). It's currently stuck at 1487.

Yes I can do English coins back to 1670 bar 1716 at the moment. (I'm ashamed to say I have bought a Swedish coin on Ebay just to plug that gap!) After that it gets patchy - the oldest dated English I have is 1551 I think. Then I think I only have the occasional non-British, so I will be relying on others!
