I have a Gallienus with great detail on a large flan it looks like this: It has a green patina and is a little dirty but there's a lot of good detail there. I was looking at the legend on the reverse and it's not DIANAE CONS AVG which is seen on all the other coins. It appears to be IO(V/A)I? And it has been bugging me this morning, couldn't find it on wildwinds and acsearch only pulled up one example which was sold in 2014 through Agora Auctions. I will upload photos of my coin for comparison later this morning. Thoughts?
IOVI CONS AVG pairs with a goat. Your antelope is a goat http://www.forumancientcoins.com/NumisWiki/view.asp?key=Gallienus Zoo I suspect the list on that Wiki is not set in stone though, plus distinguishing gazelle from goat from antelope from other horned and hoofed creature might be subjective.
I think the beard and officina nails it as a goat. If you haven't already checked out the Wolkow/Weber site... http://www.fredericweber.com/GALLIEN/emission_du_bestiaire/index.htm
That is from the mint at Rome. The radiate head right and digamma in the exergue makes it RIC 207K, Gobl 730b, Sear 10235.
Don't jump to conclusions! I said that one was previously sold 4 years ago! Here's mine: The new Goatellope! Has anyone heard from YOC? I think I would like for him to clean this coin.
Oh. Well, yours is still okay, Aiden. Not quite the beauty of the OP, but not bad at all. Here's his wife Salonina with a doe reverse, a bit greenish like yours.
