We all like those big folles but I'll just be different and show a Galerius from the short time he was Caesar before the coinage reform that ended the antoninianus and brought us the large follis and post reform radiate. It is not that these are rare but there will be a hundred of the big boys and another hundred post reform radiates offered for sale for each of these pre reform coins for Galerius.

Since Lugdunum did not use the XXI, how do we know this is pre reform? Buy RIC volume V part 2 and look up #678. Compare to this one from acsearch:

http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1630084

This seller had a really nice one and was only asking 350 euros correctly identified. Is the coin worth 350 euros? Not to me. Now look at this one from a different seller:

http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1897202

They did not look up the coin but copied the ID from somewhere adding the bit about it being in RIC volume VI. The Lugdunum section of volume VI only has 312 listings so 678 is impossible. The coin is in volume V. I will point out that they only got 5 UK pounds for the coin (a reasonable price for a post reform radiate). When you buy coins from auction houses, beware to whom you pay a buyer's premium. Just having a fancy website does not make you an expert. Still, I paid more for mine so maybe I should shop there???

Similarly, a pre reform Constantius I.
