    Very cool @galba68. Amazing how artistic these sarcophagi can be.

    These are from the city of Salona in the Roman Province of Illyricum (Solin, Croatia)

    These two are in the Vatican museum and if my memory serves are the sarcophagi of Constantine the Great's mother and daughter.

    l read one epithap from one sarcophagus..beautiful and sad..deditacted by a father to his prematurely deceased son..
    'gods of the underworld!
    traveler of roads, whoever you may be, heed these words:
    when at age of fiftteen
    the hairs of the first beard sprang across the cheeks of the youths face
    the boat claimed him and stole the only comfort from an unfortunate father
    he lies here now , taken from the embrace of his father,
    as a plough plucks the flower from the earth
    however, the flower will grow again in pleasant meadows
    but l cannot bring your dead body to life no more.."
