Ok so I decided to follow up my shiny Thasos silver with this worn and somewhat pitted bronze because I have no idea what ruler and what reverse it is, so I'm asking for help. I got it mainly because the portrait is still decent (its a bit better in hand). At first I thought it was Augustus but after searching Wildwinds I didn't find anything so I looked at Tiberius and Caligula. Still no luck. The bust looks most like Tiberius to me so I still think it might be him. Any assistance would be most appreciated. (sorry for the brightness, camera batteries died so these are from my phone)
My vote would be Tiberius, based on the nose, but I'm not a specialist in Julio-Claudians, so take my opinion for what it's worth.
I assume it is As size and weight? Is that a male figure on the reverse standing left with spear across body and shield at feet? Look for the reverse in Eric II for Tiberius if you have a copy, I am in bed with my dog lying on my lap at the moment.
At its widest point it is about the width of a quarter. And I'm not sure about the reverse. Your description looks right minus the shield, plus it looks like it is holding something in its outstreched hand. Unfortunately I don't have Eric II so I can't check.
@TIF @John Anthony @Valentinian @dougsmit @Ken Dorney @Brian Bucklan Hopefully one or more of you would be willing to give me a hand here.
I've got it marked to look at later but am tied up with work right now. I did give it a quick look last night and got nowhere. Portrait-wise, it could be Augustus or Tiberius. The reverse looks like Pax but I guess it could be someone else. I look forward to searching for a possible match tonight!
There's something come hither about that hand on that hip that makes me wish I was a little bronze man being come-hithered to.
