Ooops sorry. I would have never thought to dig through the rules of the forum before hand, to determine if or if not all coin minted by all countries is fair game for posting. One would just naturally assume, if its good enough for the issuing countries masses, then its apporpriate enough for here. If you or anyone else want to post coin pics of naked men, then by all means. My position wouldn't change one bit. Im not trying to be difficult, just mature about the whole issue.
For the most part, the coins have been tokens - and I've only seen maybe 1 that I knew for a fact was "legal tender". I can't help that it took you years to put it together. What I said before still goes - if we wouldn't allow you to post a photo of a "real-live" person showing the same detail on this forum, I don't see why we should flip-flop when it is on a coin. Now that being said, I know there are coins such as the 1917 SLQ, and some old bank notes that show detail, but you would have to agree that they don't show it in the same way, or with AS MUCH detail. I checked out your link to make sure it was within the rules for the forum, and I didn't see any links to that collection. We do strive to keep our links where even the younger kids can visit the links here on CT without running into photo of nude people. No it has not - like De Orc said - if you want to take this to the Admin Team, then please do. Speedy
I don't think that's a fair comment. Ahhh, now we're getting somewhere! So, how can I be 100% wrong (which you say below) if we agree on this? A question to ponder: If you agree that the phenomenon exists, why do you think "legal tender coinage" is exempt, world-wide, from that phenomenon? I have said absolutely nothing of the sort, and the fact that you say that makes me think you are either making presumptions of my point of view, or aren't reading very carefully. I said I found it ironic that Castro's policy was cited favorably here to support an argument. This has 100% nothing to do with my politics -- it has to do with what I perceive to be other peoples' politics. There are, granted, very few political opinions mentioned on CT, but what few I've seen seem, shall we say, on the opposite side of the spectrum than Castro. I found that ironic, ok? I was amused by it. I wasn't being critical of either Castro or the posters on this board. How can that be? -- we agreed on something!! And let me go further and completely confound some folks: I never even said I support the policy. Frankly, I'm agnostic about it -- I see both pros and cons to it. I don't think they are unreasonable -- which is quite different from saying that it's the policy I would have chosen. What I said was that the rules pre-existed most of our CT memberships, and I support Speedy's decision to enforce them.
OK guys, bottom line is this. If Speedy felt a need to edit or remove pics then I would too. So would Peter. I have said in many previous discussions what we would allow in the way of coin pics and what we would not allow. The rules are what we choose to make them. This is a private site, not a public site. We get to make the rules. And no, freedom of speech does not apply. Neither does artistic expression. Is it censorship ? You bet. You don't like it ? Tough.
I love the sarcasm up top! Way to go :hail: This thread just keeps getting worse...Somebody post a picture of a coin, THAT WONT GET DELETED, quick!
Doug, That is the most childish response I have ever seen by a moderator on this site. If you don't value the opinions of the members of the site, then there is a much bigger problem than censorship.
Paul - I value your opinion as one of the knowledgeable and experienced collectors on this site. Will you value mine? This conflict is not worth your passion. I am hereby dispensing some chill pills! Where is Ruben when we need him?
You're allowed to have your opinion. But when it comes to the rules, your opinion doesn't count. edit - should have said - the opinion of the members doesn't count.
WOW ! I like it! Now, that was a hard thing to do - and let me give you a big WOW for finding such a coin! Up until now there was only one girl that I looked at and said "WOW", and she is alive - so this one gets the WOW for a person that has already passed on. Speedy
Who will dare post the Cuban " Pirates of the Carribean" series. When I made this comment, it was meant to be sarcastic and humorous. I really did not expect anyone to respond. I did not stop and read the "rules" of this forum. I think we have gone beyon the scope of Rule #8. When Speedy pulled the coin, I was embarrased and ashamed that my suggestion caused him to take an action that i fully expected him to do. I immediatly sent Speedy a personal apology and now would like to make it public. Yes, censorship is not always accepted in our society and we deserve the right to verbaly or visualy express our opinions. No, we all agreed to follow the rules of the forum when we signed on, and as part of that agreement we should abide by the standards set by the administrators even if we don't always agree. nuff said.
I certainly will value your opinion, even if I disagree. In fact, I value everyone's opinion. Unlike most, I think conflict is a good thing. Conflict is just a preamble to resolution. I will not continue on this topic. I have made my opinion abundantly clear and the moderators have made it clear that my opinion is noted but the policy stands. While I don't agree with the application of the policy, I completely understand that I am not in a position to change policy. Therefore, the conflict has been resolved. PS. I let it go before until Sholom deliberately baited me back in just so he could play devil's advocate and get a couple kicks.
Awww, c'mon. I hope you wrote that with levity in mind . . . as it bears no relation to my actual motivation. I thought folks were ganging up on Speedy, so I wanted to offer words of support, and explain a different side.
I would hazard a guess that it is a Public website, being that you do not have to be a member to view the forums, private sites, aren't viewable to non members. Unless you are saying it's privately administered, but alas, everything with the exception of wikipedia is privately administered. I think you just wanted to run in and say I have a huge ego and all the power now you kiddies sit down and like it
Man..we are up to 137 posts pertaining to this topic. Could set an all time record. BTW, that quite the set of lungs this chick on the coin above has.
