Okay, this is a tough one . You know the drill. Found my only one in the early 2000's at an Old cellar hole metal detecting, what else . It's a little toasty, actually real toasty . If you don't have one, that's Okay. Post a Flying cent . Heck I don't care either way and I don't mean to be rude . Please post the Variety if you know it. Thanks in advance!
That's amazing. I'll bet it was a real adrenaline rush to pop that baby outta the dirt! I've only owned one Fugio- a "holey" example, non-dug by me, but it might have been someone else's detector find, because it too was pretty toasty. About like yours, but also holed. I only paid like thirty bucks for it. It's gone now, alas- sold in one of my pre-2013 purges- and I do not have any pics. Flying Eagles? I never found one of those detecting, either, but I have two rather average circulated examples at the moment. Both 1857. I once owned an UNC details holed 1857 example. That was pretty neat. UNC, but with a big ol' hole at the top. Even holed, I paid a hundred bucks for it.
I. Want. That. Perfect contrasting CircCam look. Great smooth surfaces. I’d rather have that example than many of the higher-grade ones I’ve seen. PS- what’s the purple deposit in the sundial, though? That’s rather curious.
Oh, heavens... the peer pressure is mounting... I suppose I shall have to do something about my “Fugiolessness” eventually... *sigh*
I have a few more to keep in reserve for future Fugio Fridays. (including my BFF, Best Fugio Forever (for now))
I want that one too, for my resurgent holey collection! But you could say that about most of H&C’s goodies.
When I displayed my type set, I called it "What A Shame" at first. I then changed it to "A Poor Man's Type Set".
Here are two in my collection. This one is a Club Rays, variety 4-E. NGC graded this one EF-45. I bought this piece raw many years ago. This is one of the Bank of New York Hoard varieties, 8-X. It is a "Brown Unc." which PCGS graded MS-63, Brown.
