I haven't bought any FTR for a few months and this wek I have had two arrive. This one has an identical attribution to an example already in my collection, all the way down to the officina. Despite this I thought that there were enough minor differences for meto allow soace for them both. First the description:- Constantius II - AE2 Obv:– D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed, bust right Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Helmeted soldier to left, shield on left arm, spearing falling horseman; shield on ground at right. Horseman is bearded and falls forward reaching towards emperor Minted in Antioch (Gamma | _ //ANH). A.D. 350-355 Reference:- RIC VIII Antioch 132. Now my new coin:- 5.93 gms. 23.33 mm. 180 degrees and my old coin:- 5.59 gms. 22.30 mm. 180 degrees My new coin has the horseman reaching back and grabbing the spear whereas my old coin has him with his arm bent back towards his face. The new coin has a second ring of dots on the emperor's shield whivh is not present on the other. These minor differences are enough for me to give them both tray space.
Beautiful coins! That first one is especially great. I only have two Antioch RIC 132s... one is ugly and the other is uglier, so I'm not going to post it. Here is the least ugly of the two for comparison. ANΓI Officina.
I have a few of these Antioch 132s now.... A long way from an officina set though ANE ANS (and my nicest so far) ANZ Either ANH would go in here.... ANTheta ANI (with a Predator for the horseman) ANBI placeholder
