Well.. it took 3 weeks but the envelope finally arrived! Frank outdid himself with the stamps.. a new record I think: even the reverse was used: 7 coins total - so very exciting. I will post two for now as I would like a little input on them: 1st coin - big and heavy RR Janus (my first). Not a very good photo so will try to do better. Although a bit rough - the detail is there. I am not sure how these coins are classified so any help is appreciated. 45.7 g and 38.25 mm! On the other end of the spectrum.. 2nd coin: 3.6 g and 13-15mm Very attractive ... but no info on the envelope so any info is appreciated. Will post some others as I get through them tonight..
Santa is a king of Elymais. There is an exhaustive book on these by VanHaaff with major varieties broken down further that I understand but I believe yours is a VH 13.3 Orodes II but I really did not put a lot of effort checking that so consider it a place to start looking rather than truth. I bought a set of 12 different from Frank in 2014 when he had a million of them (possible exaggeration?) but he still has some it seems. For the price, they are cool coins but ID is from portraits and little details rather than legends. The book breaks them down into subtypes so you can add to the basic ID if you wish or just round it off to the first decimal place. Now that I have time to spare, I should go back and recheck the ID's I did back then. I might add that I disagree with many ID's I see posted online but that does not mean I am right and they are wrong. There are several facing head / dashes types from different rulers and you have to pay attention to the hair tufts and other assorted details.
