I had expected to receive two coins but yesterday three showed up in the mail. The unexpected coin was "lot 455*C". Here it is (flatbed scan): Seljuks of Rum, Ar Dirhem, joint rule of the three brothers (Kay Ka'us II, Qilich Arslan IV & Kay Qubadh II) joint rule 647-655 H (1249-57 AD), Qunya/Konya mint, 21 mm, 2.95g Ref: Album 1227; cf. Seljuq of Rum » Three brothers together » AR dirham » Konya It turns out "lot 445*C" is a duplicate of lot 445, sent on approval. I am not handy with Arabic but I assume it will turn out to be another dirham of The Three Brothers when I puzzle it out. It seems a bit smaller than the actual lot 445 (21mm vs 24mm). Is it in the same condition as lot 445? Hard to say from the photo. The lot was described as "BU, centered, well struck. Exceptional quality" and this coin is certainly centered, well struck, and exceptional quality. I am not skilled enough with Seljuk coin grading to know if it is BU, Unc, or AU. I am thinking of keeping it. This is the first time I have bid in an auction, lost, and gotten a substitute sent on approval.
