The first week sales for the Sarah Polk First Spouse coin are in... Unc: 921 Proof: 1684 Could this become the new Key? http://www.numismaticnews.net/article/Lincoln_proof_sets_move_as_rolls_slow_down/
I'd like to see what the initial drop off is after premiere week. I would guess it will be close, since it is one of the better designs there might be more folks willing to pony up the dough.
maybe people are waiting for gold to drop just below the mint threshold of charging a couple hundred more for it... it's something like $979 isn't it?
I think with each tier that the price goes up, more and more collectors will drop off from the series. Someone posted a while back that although it is being considered that there may be around 3,000 - 4,000 possible complete FS sets out there, a good number of these are probably owned by dealers. Therefore, a true number of actual collectors of the series can only be guessed. Maybe 25 or 50% or that number. Anyway, with the price of each coin now, there will be a lot of collectors that fall off and only the die hard collectors or dealers with lots of cash will be buying these. Last year I posted a similar thread about one of the FS that I thought would be key and I believe it was Doug that said that the keys are yet to come. So in his words....the keys are yet to come. But for now, I think Polk is it.
