AV Pinto (400Reis) 1790 Lisbon Mint (Eliasburg Coll.)
Queen Maria I "the insane" 1777-1816
    Portugal

In 1777 Pedro III became King of Portugal/ Maria/ his wife became Queen. When Pedro died she became the sole Ruler as Maria I. In 1796 she became mentally incompetent to rule/ thus her son Joao became Prince Regent. When the French invaded Portugal, the Royal Family fled to Brazil/ then a Colonial possession. Maria died in 1816/ so her son became King Joao VI. portugal-gold-400-reis-1790-6787037-XL.jpg

    It is 15mm. 1.07g 916

Grade is NGC MS-63/ I think one is graded higher as MS-64.
Seems it was struck from fresh dies. The AV 400 Reis had low mintages/ compared to the 6400/ 4000 Reis denomintions.
