We are having a hard time getting any information on this coin. It is made of silver and its' diameter is 33.7 mm with a weight of 18.1 grams. It is dated 1853. We were able to find bronze versions and silver versions that were 75 mm in diameter, but we haven't been able to find much on this specific version or how much it's worth. Any help would certainly be much appreciated.
Thanks, but that link is for the bronze 76.2 mm version. The one we have is 33.7 mm and made of silver.
There was a great article in Coin World a while back about Indian Peace medals. Apparently, the smaller the medal, the less important the individual within the tribe. At least that is what I can remember.
Not sure what happened to that link that was the page for the silver version of this medal. Either way, yours would be diminished in valued due to the damage at the top, i.e. the hole drilled through.

Depends on whether pre drilled or not. Many medal or even the early SCD came pre-drilled. These medals were signs of stature and worn with pride. I really wish I could find that darn article which explained all this.
