As an avid FM collector I would like to share pics of Franklin Mints 2012 Holiday Medals. Each is 1 ounce .999 Silver and limited to only 100 pieces. For the first time ever the reverse can be personalized with a name or message. Of course the Franklin Mint no longer mints but these items are fully developed by them, designed by a former FM artist, and bear the FM mintmark. These are struck in the USA for TFM. Franklin Mint had a long running tradition of offering fun medals, medallic greeting cards, and Christmas Ingots from the late 1960's to 2003. In the mid to late 90's the offering varieties were reduced as FM seemed to think the market wanted cheap made in China plates etc. The last two medallic cards and ingots from 2002-03 were struck by a vendor mint as FM sold off what remained of its coining facility in early 2002. But the new owners are trying some interesting stuff. Prices are higher these days but a 1 ounce crown proof coin will cost you $100+ from most world mints too. Following on the heels of, in my opinion, the stunning Founding Fathers Medals with wood case, Franklin Mint decided to try these Christmas Medals. I am pleased with the quality. Enjoy the pics. If you remember this tradition from years ago (FM had a protest of collectors when trying to drop the Christmas Medallics in the 90s') I would recommend one before the 100 are gone. The designs are simple..but crisp. I think they rushed into these at the last minute (End of Nov) to see how it did with customers. I was very surprised to see a nice full edgemark/hallmark similar the old Franklin Mint hallmarks.
