westward journey 6 pc nickel set

mintage as of today for westward journey 6 pc nickel set is 142,805. my guess is that it will pass 2004 set in term of mintage. and possibly hit 300,000 or more. 2004 set is around 200,000.

    which nickel is the best?.

i think 2003 jefferson nickel and 2006 jefferson nickel will outperform than 2004 and 2005 nickels.

    nickels latest production

    2004 peace medal (P) 361.4 (D) 372.0
    2004 keelboat (P) 366.7 (D) 344.9
    2005 am. bison (P) 448.3 (D) 487.7
    2005 ocean view (P) 298.1 (D) 332.6

note: ocean in view production might reach the level of that peace medal and keelboat.

    nickels

soon the us mint will declare 2005 mint set sold out. now it only limit 10 set per order until the inventory run out. thus it will also affect the westward journey 6 pc set also. and it too will be sold out soon. both set mintages are higher than last year 2004. will these sets be a good investment?. i doubt it.

    westward journey 6 pc set

how much you think this set will go?. 2004 set reached around $45.00 to $50.00. mintage around 200,000. 2005 mintage will be higher at over 300,000. since nickels were involved. this 2005 nickels set should be around at least $25.00 to $30.00. any prediction?.

Bison. The obverse really stinks. I wonder if this will end up like the famous bi-centenial coins. I remember a guy that was saving them and had thousands of them in mint condition. He ended up spending them and then finally took them to a bank. I had several rolls of them also and also ended up spending them all. No value except to fill a slot in an album. These nickels will end up like that I'm afraid. With the Mint producing more than one per person in the USA and not all collectors, that means there eventually will be a excess of them in uncirc condition and of no value except to fill a slot in an album. Same with the State Quarters. Just to many in uncirc condition to ever be of any value except to complete a set for a grandchild.

    2006 westward journey nickel?.

if you look at production figure for nickels at the u.s.mint website. you will find it that the westward journey seem to extent to the year 2006. is that mean that the first year of new design for jefferson is also be included in the westward journey series?.

    which nickel is the best

I prefer the Bison of the four followed by ocean in view, keeboat and last Peace.
I like the obverse for 2005 takes getting use to after 66 years of the OLD design. Hope the 2006 new obverse design works well.
Wish all denominations would get completely redesigned not just "updating" portraits!

I've never really liked the Jefferson nickels at all. I've got 4 complete sets up to 2003 and have now stopped that collection. If I was forced to save one of the new ones it would be the Bison. The obverse of all the new nickels is really dumb. I believe that this fad will go the way of the be-centinial coins that everyone saved and now have put into circulation knowing they will never amount to anything. I feel the mint is temporarily creating a coin collecting burst and that part is good but wonder if it will last or go the way of stamp collecting, beanie babies, hot wheels, etc.

the 2006 obverse of jefferson nickel look good. that's the drawing part. but real coin come out. i hope it will be good. i disliked the 2004 and 2005 obverse. that was terrible.

    nickel vs quarter

coins from the bags and rolls will definately damage some coins. but the nickels will be more secure than quarters. because the rim of quarters were so sharp that it can scratch the face of a coin. while that of nickels have a plain and smooth rim. and any bigger coin in diameter will also damaged easily than smaller one.

The new obverse portrait for the 2006 nickel is here to stay isn't it? The mint is not going back to the old portrait in 07 is it?

    to nickelman

i will be stay for a couple of years. say 30 to 50 year. unless the congress decide to change it. i liked indianhead and buffalo. the indianhead might not show up again. but the buffalo keep re-surfaced. like kansas quarter, jefferson nickel and the new 2006 state quarter.

    ocean in view nickels

2005 ocean in view nickel production as of november have been increased. the figures as below:

    PEACE MEDAL: 361,440,000 (D), 372,000,000 (P)

    KELLBOAT---: 388,720,000 (D), 344,880,000 (P)

    AM BISON---: 448,320,000 (D), 487,680,000 (P)

    OCEAN IN VIEW:339,840,000 (D), 377,520,000 (P)

P.S. that's mean all of them equally a lot. since fewer people ordering ocean in view. we can see a lot of ocean in view distribute from the banks after december.

Would have to say the bison one. It feels like they ressurected the buffalo nickel!

Ocean in View would be a close second for me... I honestly don't care much for the keelboat or peace designs. I don't dislike them, they just fail to spark any interest or excitement for me. I'm just indifferent towards them.

hard to find new nickels from a bank roll.

it is very hard to find some new nickels inside a bank roll. only 5%. unlike the statehood. we can find at least 25% to 33% new design coins. maybe a lot of collectors pay too much premium for the nickels.

    last westward journey jefferson nickel

2006 jefferson nickel is the best. the design topped all previous 2004 and 2005 nickels.
