The lastest (as of 6/8/2010) Mint Stats for the 2009 Mint/Proof sets are... Clad Proof: 1,475,264 Silver Proof: 690,822 Mint Sets: 771,204 These are fairly low mintages and sales end on the 15th...fyi. :hail:
Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. I'm one of those slackers that probably won't buy his mint set until Monday night. Curse me and my procrastinative nature.
Any stragglers might also consider the very real possibility of the quality of coins you might end up with... Another member has expressed some woe after ordering late in the game... Got some things from the mint, very disappointed
Krispy, I just realized I haven't ordered them yet either. What's your take? Go for it and order now or just pick them up at a show?
Go and get them at the show if that's an option for you. Always better to buy coins you can see in hand first. Might save you a lot of time and headache if the Mint sends you bonk merchandise that you need to return.
Yeah, don't get them from the mint. Probably returned garbage and you'll run sales up. Get them in the aftermarket now, while they still can be had for issue price.
I have no problem getting them from the Mint directly but I don't want to do it right before they are sold out.
I agree and would be concerned about quality when ordering so late in the game...likely other people's returns. TC
We decided to wait and just pick them up at Summer FUN or somewhere else where we can see them in person. Thanks for the advice guys! :thumb:
It looks like the final numbers for these "sold out" sets has settled at... Clad Proof: 1,477,967 Silver Proof: 694,406 Mint Sets: 774,844 Consider the Silver Proof Kennedy Half dollar... There are only 15,000 more of the 2009 silver halves than the 1995 silver halves (which list in the 2010 Red Book @ $60 and are routinely offered for retail sale @ $80). The 1999 silver half is listed in the Red Book @ $40 and the 2009 mintage is 110,000 less! That one (1) coin alone may eventually pay for the entire set...for those lucky enough to order a set when this thread began. :thumb:
